New Month’s Resolution for April

Through the miracle of 20th century medicine, I am feeling much better. Thank you all for your kind words and prayers.

A little late this month, but I haven’t been doing much these last few days anyway: I bring you this month’s resolution: get stuff out of my house.

First I have six packages that need to be mailed. I’ll need my helpers just to get in the post office.

Then there’s the glass turntable I saved from my microwave when it caught on fire last month (and I didn’t even blog about that little excitement). I think I could sell it on eBay for $10-15 which makes it worth the hassle. I’ve never sold on eBay before. I need to either do it, or get rid of it.

Then I have several piles of clothes I’ve set aside for people I know with younger boys. Perhaps the Used Clothing Fairy needs to make some early morning covert drop offs, just so the errand doesn’t take an hour.

Then there is the huge pile of kids clothes that are too worn or I don’t prefer or that we simply don’t need. They must go. And I can’t wait to relieve myself of the onerous presence of certain articles of clothing that have seen me through the early post-partum months of several kids. The very sight of them makes me feel fat. If I have another baby, I will get other clothes.

And lastly, there are other things I’ve been setting aside to donate to the thrift store. These little piles are cluttering various corners of different closets.

If I have time, I’ll glean the kids’ toys and games, but for now, the main focus is just getting out what is already marked for removal.

What is a New Month’s Resolution? I’ve been doing these for over a year now. Every month I look at where I need to focus my attention. Perhaps I’ve been procrastinating on certain chores. Perhaps I need to spend some extra time with one or more of the kids. Perhaps I’d like to try a new habit. New Month’s Resolutions are not grandiose plans to lose ten pounds or declutter the entire house or give up smoking (of course, I don’t smoke, but if I did, this would not be the venue in which I would give it up). New Month’s resolutions are short-term commitments; they are easily attained goals; they focus on what is needed right now, instead of what is best for a lifetime.

Do you have a new month’s resolution?

  1. I’m doing a room by room, whole house cleaning in time for David to come home on leave. Three weeks to go!

  2. I have a resolution to get rid of “stuff” that is not needed and do a room by room purging. My goal is to have it all done by september in preparation for next school year. Also, to have a whole set of new routines implemented by then too. We’ll be busy. Great post.

  3. You must be PCSing again soon…that’s the only thing that inspires me to go through all the stuff and weed things out. Don’t push yourself too much! We don’t want that ear infection to rear up again.

  4. I really like this idea, or the resolution! I might just have to do that too!I have been working on this same one here for awhile. Baby steps, of course. Cleaning up my life and my house, lol.But getting rid of stuff, it feels so good, but at the same time panics me. I just posted about seeing my daughter sucking on a plastic toy… I wish I could egt rid of them all! Scares me! But then people buy them for you or what not and … oh it just never ends, does it?Oh and that was one of the great things about military life… you could never hold on to too much, because you would move again in a few years. It really helped me keep the clutter down.

  5. Let’s see… Focus on househunting, some of these places look fantastic and it is driving me batty that all the good ones might be gone by the time I get up to DC to pick. (I went from looking at row houses in town to only looking at houses on 1/2 acre or more!)Get as much schoolwork done this month as possible, hopefully finish up K. Bake more.

  6. i’m glad you’re feeling better – i’ve been thinking about you but haven’t been in a good space to blog/comment. about ebay – they’ve changed their seller SOP recently and i’ve heard a lot of complaints that if you’re not making a steady income stream through them it’s no longer worth selling. if you do decide to go that way, i’d like to hear how it goes. the alternative (and maybe more workable for you) is craigslist.org.

  7. I am going to get the master bath de-wallpapered and then paint it. I might even get that linen closet cleaned out.Wouldn’t that be something! 🙂

  8. Kat…Me too! I just blogged about the same thing the other day. Everything I’d been reading said we’d have a nice bottoming out of the DC market next year in March or so…but with the new bail out, I’m not sure how the market will changed now. Just have to keep waiting till then.
