Head banging

No. I’m not listening to hard rock.

I can’t find my seam ripper, and I’ve had to rip seams all day long over and over again.

The fact that I am seam ripping is bad enough. But I’m working on a crowded dining room table – fighting for space between the Othello game and the school books that weren’t picked up from Friday and various personal projects that the kids have their hands in. I’m sitting in Jenny’s seat because it’s the closest one to the outlet on the wall.

I’m taking a break because I’ve ripped the same seam more than once, and I just can’t sit there anymore. Jenny decides to color. In her seat.

She comes to me, very sorry, because she accidentally colored the dress. Sure enough, green crayon on the white Communion dress. It’s on the inside, but I can see it on the reverse.

Anyone? Any ideas? Crayon on white satin? I can’t wash it because of the lace. Let me know…I’m the one, over there, with the bruise on the forehead and the dent in the drywall.

  1. Um…if you can’t get it out, see if you can get Jenny to make it into a more shamrock-y shape. It should match the shamrocks on the veil. 😉

  2. coincidentally, i was just researching an article assignment, “Cleaning Tips From the Pros”, and have all these stain removal resources right on my desktop. 😉

“Place the stained surface down on a clean white cotton rag, spray with WD-40, let stand a few minutes, turn fabric over and spray the other side. Apply liquid dishwashing detergent and work into the stained area, moving the rag as it absorbs the stain.”

Good luck – that sounds like a nightmare!

  3. Oh gosh, WD-40 on white satin. I don’t think I have the guts to try it. Liquid dishwashing detergent, though. I could do that.

Barb, even if it doesn’t come out, it’s really not that noticeable. I don’t think anyone would see it unless I pointed it out. Her scribbling was pretty light, but it WAS on that white fabric. I’m just afraid of trying a “cure” and making it worse. I do think I have enough fabric to do another panel if necessary.

  4. My friend’s daughter had her first communion today…and a stain on that dress (something brown right in the front) came out with dawn dish soap with a spot cleaning. She looked great today…her entry was a couple days back. http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/clanclave

  5. If there was such a thing as a do-over for bad days I would think you definitely deserve one today!!!
I hope, if the stain doesn’t come out completely, that it would at least fade enough in your cleaning attempts so that it wouldn’t be noticeable at all
I really do hope tomorrow is a good day for you!!

  6. You could try Goo Gone. I’ve used it on my carpet, even. Just make sure that you use one drop at a time and work from the outside of the stain in.
Have you tried using that Chlorox bleach pen, and coloring over the mark?

If you are too afraid to try cleaning it, there’s always my favorite stain solution – applique’s!
Patch a flower, pearl button, embroider a cross, or just stick on another layer of lace or ruffle. Might have to do it in more than one spot so it’s symmetrical.
