On the radio…

Toby Keith’s You Ain’t Much Fun

Katie: Why did he quit drinking, Mommy?

Me: Because his wife was getting mad at him.

Katie: Why is he upset?

Me: Because his wife is making him work now.

Explaining song lyrics to children is so tedious I try to avoid it as much as possible. Next on the radio…

Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire

Katie: What’s a ring of fire?

silence

Katie: I think it’s a bunch of rings and there’s a fire…

Billy: It’s a circle, Katie, and it’s on fire.

brief silence

Katie: I think he must know stop, drop and roll, so he’ll be okay.

Yes, let’s remember that advice, dear, when you begin dating. Things getting a bit too passionate? Just stop, drop, and roll. You may have some grass stains, and possibly a dent in that chastity belt your father has picked out for you, but you’ll be okay.

  1. HILLARIOUS!!I love the literal way children see and hear everything. So sweet. 🙂

  2. Oh my goodness, that’s hallarious! My kids haven’t really cross the threshold… sounds like I’ll be in for it whenever that happens.

  3. Time to bust out the Veggie Tales Silly Songs CDs for the car? ROFLMBO!!!My DD has a habit of “mis-hearing” lyrics, which also results in very interesting discussions!

  4. LOVE starting my day with a chuckle! *Smile*(Found my way here via Renee over at Crazy Acres! I like your blog!)

  5. <>All my Exes Live in Texas<> is usually good for twenty questions……but I think about the songs I sang as a kid from Johnny Cash to innuendo-laden Fifties music to polka music with great lyrics like “I don’t want her, you can have her, she’s too fat for me…hey!” I wasn’t too corrupted…

  6. Bwahahahaahahahahhaa. I’m going to have to remember that.
