I disagree. As I now work in faith formation for a parish, my experience has been hostility from parents who are not willing to be parents. The reason we exist, unfortunately, is because parents are not equipped and don’t care to live out their faith at home. They’d prefer that paid teachers compartmentalize the faith, and should anyone DARE to suggest that they even have a PART in their children’s formation…well…I’ll spare you the actual words used. Besides, they were used outside of my direct hearing. But their hostility was in my face, and even other parents who DO care felt the hostility. I love it when parents call me and are teaching the faith at home…even better when they know their faith and don’t just want to teach it at home, but in the church and in the school so that other children and families benefit both from their example and from their knowledge. * sigh *
